ABOUT ME

I was born in Portugal, the decade that followed the end of the dictatorship, a time when Portugal was awakening to new possibilities. Growing up in an environment that was discovering the world has helped shape my sense of curiosity, but also my sense of respect for enclosed countries and cultures.
Still as a child, I fled the school grounds a few times to explore the forbidden and the unknown. Even though I was not very keen on attending school, I still managed to graduate in Photography from UWE, in Bristol, and add post-grad studies in Anthropology from Amsterdam's UvA, focusing my studies for both degrees in documentary and micro-cultures.
In theory all my studies were interesting and compelling, but travelling was the real thing that would ignite these interests and make them so much more compelling. So, in 2016 I topped up my work as a documentary photographer and started working as a tour leader, focusing on the less-known landscapes and cultures from countries such as Mongolia, China, Morocco, Uzbekistan and others. Having the honor to bring more people to know these cultures feels to me more relevant than any lecture or exhibition I have presented as a student or as an artist.
I have been using Photography as vehicle to dig into cultural costumes as well as seek into my very own emotions. Photography for me is always an experiment, and I’m mostly interested in what lays beyond the framing of a photograph – a reminiscence of my wild childhood, a never-ending search for the forbidden and the unknown.
In both Photography and Travels I allow my practice to be a reflection of my nomadic soul.
